My Review Of The New Medifast Macaroni And Cheese

By: Lindsey Price:  I used to notice that many folks on the medifast diet would comment on weight loss forums that they wished for pasta to be added to the menu.  Yes, you have your sweets (like desserts) and your salty items (like the pretzels and chips.)  But where was the pasta?  Well, thankfully, medifast has heard the call because they have recently released their new
Medifast Macaroni & Cheese
.  In this article, I’ll tell you what I think of it in terms of taste and nutritional value.

I like the taste of this product.  I had a little concern that, being a diet product, it wasn’t going to be exactly full of cheesy flavor.  I assumed it might be kind of bland with very little cheese.  This isn’t the case at all.  It’s very cheesy.  But it’s not overly so like that kits that you get that have you mix in the powdered bright orange cheese.  I’ve found that most people who comment about it on the weight loss forums like this product and review it favorably.  Of course, not every one likes regular macaroni and cheese.  If you don’t, then you may not like this either because it pretty much tastes like a lighter version of the non diet kind.

I’ve found that you can play around with it in order to get the texture that you prefer.  If you look at the picture of it on the Medifast Official Site, you’ll see that it’s pictured as kind of firm textured with a crispy top.  It’s my experience that if this is the end product that you’re looking for, you’ll need to microwave it a little differently than what the directions indicate.  The directions ask you to microwave it once for a minute and a half and then let it stand for a minute and repeat the process.  I’ve found that if you really want that crunchy top, you have to repeat the process as many as three times and you need to let it set for longer than a minute.  I’ve let it sit for as long as three or four minutes in order to allow it to completely thicken up and absorb all of the liquid and moisture before I put it in the microwave again.

If you like very creamy macaroni and cheese and don’t care about the crunchy top, then you can just make it as directed and you will get more of a creamy texture with more liquid in the product.  I like it more crunchy but luckily, you are able to control the texture.  This is a kosher and vegetarian product.   It has only 110 calories and only 1 gram of sugar.  It contains 4 grams of fiber and 11 grams of protein.   There are only 15 grams of carbohydrates, which isn’t too bad, considering the fact that this is pasta.  Overall, I’d rate this menu item as very good.  It’s been well received and I think that if you try it, you’ll understand why.  A box of 7 boxes costs $16.50.
