Is Medifast Worth A Try?
By: Lindsey Price: I sometimes hear from people who are trying to determine if medifast is going to be effective or worth trying for them. Often, they have tried other diets and have failed or found life on the diet too restrictive or unpleasant. So, although they were loosing weight, they gave up because they just couldn’t take that unpleasant lifestyle anymore. They are often trying to determine if medifast is going to be different and, if so, why?
I recently heard from someone who said: “I have to be honest when I tell you that I have tried countless other diets. I’ve even tried some prepackaged diets like slim fast. Eventually though, I got so sick of the shakes that I vowed to never drink another one again. I notice that medifast has other foods besides just the shakes. So I’m wondering if medifast would be worth a look. How might it be different from slim fast and would it work for someone who doesn’t much like being on a diet? Is medifast worth a try for me?”
I am not the most objective person to ask this question. My experience on medifast has been good. I had tried a lot of diets too but none of them stuck for the long term. Some of them gave decent results and some didn’t do a thing for me, at least in terms of weight loss. But regardless of the results, I eventually abandoned them all because they were too restrictive and I got sick of eating the same things over and over and not having flexibility if I wanted to go out to eat to a restaurant or have a nice meal with my family.
That’s why I found medifast to kind of be the best of both worlds. It does have those prepackaged bars, shakes, soups, and other types of foods that make it so effective and convenient. But in addition to this, you do have one large meal that you get to play with and make yourself every day. This is huge for me because it means that each and every day, I am going to have something to look forward to and I can take the initiative to ensure that I am not bored.
Also, there’s at least 70 food choices on medifast. Yes, you have your shakes and bars, but there are also
Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Brownie with real chocolate chips
, ice cream, chips, pudding, soup, chili, and other meals. Plus, there are a lot of recipes that allow you to take the medifast prepackaged meals and make them into something else. This is one reason that I don’t get nearly as bored on medifast as I did on other diets. However, having a lot of the food prepared for me ensures that I don’t think that the whole thing is too much work and just give up.
I’d like to make one final point. One thing that I think really makes medifast stand apart from other diets is that every item on the menu is very specifically designed to have the correct ratio of carbs to calories to protein that helps you lose weight. For example, you’re not likely to find brownies anywhere that have such high amounts of protein and so low amounts of fat and calories. The same is true with the ice cream and brownies. The foods are modified to give your body the fuel you need to feel full but to also to get into fat burning mode.
In short, I do feel that medifast is worth a try for many people. But that’s only one person’s opinion. In my experience, it does work and it’s not that painful or annoying to be on. Plus, the cost is very competitive and there are usually aggressive medifast coupons that bring the cost per meal down in the low $2 range. You certainly can’t say that about many prepackaged diets.
