Can You Lose Weight On Your First Day On Medifast?
By: Lindsey Price: I sometimes hear from people who are extremely excited about their day one results while on the medifast diet. Many really want to believe that they have already lost some weight on that very first day. I heard from someone who said: “I started medifast this morning. I took the meals to my job and had my lean and green meal for dinner. Tonight when I got my shower, I noticed that my stomach was more flat and that my pants were actually quite loose. These pants are normally snug. I feel like I might have already lost some weight, but I’m too scared to weigh myself. Is this at all possible?” I’ll try to answer these questions in the following article.
Let’s Look At The Math: I never want to discourage anyone when they are this excited. My attitude about this is that if you feel as if you are slimming down already and you feel good, then really, that’s all that matters. But, in order to lose one pound, you need a calorie deficit of around 3500 calories. Now, you can do this through dieting, exercising, or any combination of the two. And, you do take in far few calories than normal on medifast, or around 1.000 – 1,200 or so, depending upon what you chose for your lean and green meal. So, subtracting this from your normal amount of calories on a typical day could tell you what type of calorie deficit you’re dealing with. And you can certainly lose a little less than a pound and still notice and still celebrate the difference.
Why Would I Feel Lighter Or Have Looser Clothes On The First Day On Medifast?: I will tell you a theory of mine. I have no scientific evidence to back it up. But it’s so common for me to hear people suspect success on the first day that I feel like perhaps there is more at play than taking in fewer calories. I think that it might have something to do with digestion. Medifast meals are soy based and I believe that many people notice bloating issues that go away once they remove the offender from their diets. Additionally, moving away from eating larger meals and then eating five smaller meals helps with this also. So while I think that you can see some results from taking in fewer calories, I believe that some people get relief from the bloating associated with eating large meals of foods that don’t agree with them. And once they change things up, they notice a difference. And this difference can happen very quickly, even on that first day.
With all of this said, I don’t think it’s impossible to see results on day one. I just know that mathematically, it’s cutting it close. At the end of the day, I don’t think it matters all that much why you’re seeing the difference that you are. I think it’s important just to be grateful that you are seeing it and to use this enthusiasm to propel you forward. Keep right on doing whatever you are doing and await even more results.
