by: lindsey price: People often ask me how much weekly weight they can expect to lose on medifast. They are usually especially interested in the first or early weeks because they want to start losing weight right away. Weekly weight loss varies by the person. I’ve had people tell me that want to lose as much as 8 to 10 pounds per week but I think that this really is asking a lot. If you look at the company’s literature, you’ll see that the range that they give you is 2 – 5 pounds per week for the first couple of weeks anyway. After that, it tapers down to 1 -2 pounds per week. I think that this is more in line with what many people see. I’ve noticed that people who start out with a lot of weight to lose sometimes see more dramatic results, especially in the beginning.
People often ask me how they can make sure that they are on the upper end of this range. Well, you can make sure that you eat all six meals (five prepackaged and one lean and green.) You can chose your lean and green ingredients carefully to make sure that you aren’t adding in high calorie, fat, or glycemic foods. (Which shouldn’t be too complicated if you follow the guidelines they give you or ask questions if you have them.) You don’t want to do anything to keep from getting into ketosis. The sooner you get into ketosis, the sooner you start losing rapid weight.
With that said, you don’t want to over do it. Your body works hard in ketosis and its needs fuel. So don’t skip meals. (I know that this seems counter intuitive but trust me on that one.) I’m often asked about exercise while on medifast. While moderate exercise will likely enhance your results, your health, and the appearance of your body, that’s something that you don’t need to overdo either. Most should lose weight due to taking in less calories. Exercise should really be thought of (at least in my view) as a way to get those long, lean lines that make you look strong and thin and not as a way to overachieve or to lose as excessive amount of weight too soon as this diet is designed to take care of the sensible weight loss for you anyway.
I know that every one wants to lose tons of weight right out of the gate, but if you are merely average and in the middle of the range that would be three and a half pounds for the first couple of weeks and one and a half after. In a month, that’s around 10 pounds. In a year, you’d be well over a 70 pound loss. In only three months at that rate, you’d have lost nearly 25 pounds which is quite a lot and would put you in clothing several sizes smaller. The bottom line is that it’s good to want to be successful and to lose weight quickly. But don’t let this motivate you to do more than you should. This diet has been studied extensively in clinical studies and tweaked so that it works very well. Trust the process, follow the directions and hopefully you should be happy with the results.
